The Role in Brief:

Associate QA Engineer

Opportunity based in Richmond, VA

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate and provide input on story requirements, design, estimation and test approach discussions
  • Collaborate with the development team and business partners to ensure the scope of tests is comprehensive, and to mitigate defects prior to testing
  • Create test data sets which fully exercise data validation, reports, and end-to-end system functionality
  • Validate code changes (both manual and automated fashion) in web-based development environment (Tech stack includes Python, Ruby, Java, Postgres, MySQL, Oracle)
  • Identify potential impact areas to existing downstream functionality; identifying and communicating risks when appropriate
  • Create detailed test case documents and maintain them with ongoing product changes
  • Create SQL scripts to validate actual test results match expected results
  • Identify and log defects if/when a test fails, if necessary, using SQL to narrow down the root cause of the problem for efficient investigation by the development team
  • Work with stakeholders to understand product requirements and use cases
  • Write clear, concise, descriptive defect reports and verify defect fixes
  • Support developers in troubleshooting test failures
  • Support QA process improvements

Basic Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of prior experience in software QA any modern web-based development environment
  • Good practical knowledge of relational databases (SQL)
  • Scrum/Agile background
  • Knowledge of Behavior Driven Development (BDD) framework.
  • Experience with test case writing using domain oriented language (Gherkin etc.)
  • Knowledge of web application architecture and technologies, including multi-platform/browser support
  • Basic object-oriented programming skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field

Ideal Qualifications:
  • Experience with automation tools like Selenium Webdriver
  • Experience testing Rest API's / Webservices
  • Experience with Performance/Load testing including open source tools
  • Exposure to any Cloud computing and/or Big Data technologies
