Overview . Shearman & Sterling is looking for an intellectual property transactions/data privacy associate with two to six years direct experience for our growing intellectual property transactions/data privacy (IPT/Data Privacy) practice.

IPT/Data Privacy Practice Focus . The IPT/Data Privacy group is part of the corporate group and the person should expect to spend most of their time working on transactions for our corporate and private equity clients, including M&A transactions, capital markets offerings, financing deals - as well as licensing and other IP, software and data-related commercial transactions. Members of the IPT group are also expected to have a solid grasp of data privacy issues. Shearman & Sterling handles complex, innovative, cross-border M&A, capital markets and financing for some of the most prominent technology, entertainment and financial services companies in the world.

About the IPT/Data Privacy Group . The IPT/Data Privacy group is an extremely collegial, dynamic and supportive group which would provide excellent training and experience for this candidate. This person would work directly with an experienced Partner in New York. The IPT/Data Privacy group currently has 5 lawyers and 2 paralegals and the group provides support for Shearman's entire global platform. The group meets on a regular basis (by video conference) and is very collaborative about sharing resources, knowledge and experience.

Background and Personality . We are particularly interested in those lawyers who have strong IP, data privacy and technology transactions backgrounds and are enthusiastic about the firm's transactional practice. The ideal candidate must have an interest in technology, experience in licensing and experience in the IP and data privacy aspects of corporate transactions. A science and engineering background would be useful, but not essential. It is also very important for this person to be a "team player" and willing to help out other members of the group since it is relatively small.

Requirements : New York bar membership required. Superior academic credentials, excellent oral, written, contract drafting and negotiation skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills, required.
