Primary Position Function/Summary:

The Associate Director of the Freshman Experience is a full-time professional staff member in the New Student Programs office, a unit of Student Success and
Engagement. The Associate Director oversees the implementation and evaluation of orientation programs and transition services for new freshman students. The
Associate Director reports to the Director of New Student Programs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates and develops a first-year curriculum program to assist freshmen with transitioning to the university.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of various orientation programs for freshman students.
  • Assist in the implementation of Fall Orientation/Welcome Week.
  • Directly supervise and evaluate two (2) Assistant Directors and oversee the supervision of the paraprofessional staff through the Assistant Directors position.
  • Oversee the development of the training program for Orientation Leaders and Illini Transfer Ambassadors.
  • Collaborate with Undergraduate Admissions to enhance the overall summer registration and Parent Orientation process for incoming families.
  • Manage the budget for assigned designated programs from the Director of New Student Programs.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate assessment, reports, and publications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (including campus committees) to advance the unit, department, and division.

Position Requirements and Qualifications:

Education:

Required:
  • Bachelors degree in higher education administration, student personnel or a field related to the position.

Preferred:
  • Master's Degree in counseling, higher education, student personnel, or related field is required.

Experience:

Required:
  • Four years in education, training and/or work experience in student administration.
    • A Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
  • Demonstrated staff training and supervision experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in development programming for first year students.
  • Demonstrated experience with program planning and assessment.

Preferred:
  • Seven years of full-time professional student programming administrative experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience supervising professional level staff.
  • Teaching experience either at staff trainings or in the classroom.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated organizational, leadership, communication, and public relations skills. Ability to effectively assess programs and services.
  • Ability to work autonomously; takes initiative and able to think critically and creatively to solve problems.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and assess complex programs.
  • Ability to supervise professional staff.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators participating in orientation .
  • Ability to work with and relate to a diverse student population of students, staff, and faculty who participate in office programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments on campus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, changing, and diverse environment.

Salary and Appointment Information:

This is a full-time Civil Service Program Coordinator position appointed on a [12]-month service basis. The proposed start date is as soon as possible after 7/5/2022. The minimum salary is $68,000 and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
