POSITION DETAILS

The School of Education houses three academic departments: Early Childhood & Childhood Education, Middle & High School Education, and Counseling, Leadership, Literacy, and Special Education, comprised of 44 full-time faculty members, approximately 100 adjunct faculty members, 14 professional staff and 2 college assistants. The School is also home to three centers and institutes: The Bronx Institute, The Center for School/College Collaboratives, and The Institute for Literacy Studies, all of which conduct research and action projects in partnership with schools.

The Associate Dean, who reports to the Dean of the School of Education, serves as a key member of the School's senior management team, and acts as a liaison between the departments and the Dean's office. The Associate Dean supports the Dean with the day-to-day functions of the School including strategic planning, assessment of learning outcomes and budget development and management.

The Associate Dean will support the Dean in managing all academic and curricular affairs in collaboration with department chairs and programs coordinators. This will include oversight of educator, leadership, and counselor preparation programs, liaisons with liberal arts/sciences faculty for collaborative programs, and design of professional development activities for faculty. The Associate Dean will work closely with the Director of Clinical Practice and Partnerships and the Teacher Certification Specialist to ensure smooth operation of student field-experiences and to resolve any issues that may arise.The Associate Dean will represent the School of Education in the Dean's absence.

The Associate Dean will oversee national and state accreditation activities and Title II reporting in collaboration with the Director of Assessment and Director of Operations. They will participate in the Quality Assurance System for ongoing program evaluation and student success monitoring, and oversee data gathering protocols and procedures. They will support departments in applications for new programs and liaise with CUNY Academic Affairs representatives.

The Associate Dean will be responsible for working with the Admissions, Marketing, and Alumni Affairs offices to develop print and media materials and implement outreach plans for enrollment growth and serve as a liaison with schools in the region to build partnerships for sponsored programs and professional development for educators in the field. The Associate Dean will collaborate with faculty and staff in developing student success events such as workshops, symposia, and specialized advisement. They will resolve student-related issues along with program coordinators and faculty advisors.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

Doctoral degree in Education or closely related field; minimum of 3 years' experience in higher education leadership in the role of chairperson or program director in a University setting; record of scholarship; evidence of leadership in accreditation; evidence of strong management and collaborative leadership; strong strategic planning, program development and assessment skills; experience with grant procurement, supporting faculty growth, oversight of college-level programs and processes, marketing, and program development. Appointment to the position may be accompanied with an appointment at the rank of associate or full professor, and tenure may be granted upon appointment to the faculty title, depending on qualifications and experience.
