Description:

The Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) is the leader of the Freeman Business School's efforts to develop and implement strategic initiatives to embed EDI throughout the School. This person will work in collaboration with University initiatives, other units in the University, community stakeholders, and the Freeman Business School faculty, staff, and students. The Associate Dean position is an integral member of the Business School's leadership team. This person will also teach as a Professor of Practice in the A. B. Freeman School of Business. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the Business School's efforts to embed EDI values into the School's learning environment both within and outside of the classroom. These values include promoting a respectful culture, promoting student engagement and well-being, serving as a sounding board and liaison for students and the staff/faculty, and conducting assessments of EDI initiatives and developing recommendations to enhance the student experience.
  2. Serve as the senior administration's representative on the University's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, providing expert knowledge and guidance for efforts to improve climate, intergroup relations, and accountability.
  3. Drives a cohesive strategy around EDI efforts at the Business School while working closely with the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion to support and bolster university-level efforts.
  4. Serve as an advocate for staff, faculty, and students from underrepresented and underserved groups in EDI concerns.
  5. Serve as a resource for faculty, students, staff, and administrators about justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  6. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration efforts to enhance the recruitment, retention, and success of a diverse student body in each of the Business School's educational programs.
  7. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration efforts to enhance the recruitment, retention and success of a diverse faculty and staff in the Business School.
  8. Provide advice and counsel to the Dean regarding overall student experience and promotion of EDI; report on metrics of interest related to EDI progress; serve as an advocate for the student body.
  9. Candidate must be qualified to teach 1-2 courses per year in the Freeman School.  We are particularly interested in candidates who could teach aspects of EDI theory and practice, and the application of research.
  10. Build and maintain strong effective relationships with campus partners and the community whose work intersects with the Business School to create collaborative services.

Qualifications:

The Associate Dean for EDI must have the education and experience necessary for an appointment as a full-time faculty member in the Freeman Business School. These qualifications include a doctoral or other terminal degree, and a minimum of five years of experience teaching and/or administering in an institution of higher education or similar institution. A preferred qualification includes experience in handling diversity, equity, and inclusion issues. The Associate Dean should possess the following skills and abilities/competencies:

  1. Demonstrated excellence in leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  2. Demonstrated ability to consult, collaborate, and communicate clearly with both internal and external stakeholders regarding issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion within business organizations and institutions of higher education.
  3. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain both strategic and operational partnerships.
