Assistant Vice President, Curriculum & InstructionDescription/Job Summary

Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, this position manages all aspects of the academic curriculum including maintenance, updates and edits, the evaluation of program value and success, and the identification and creation of new course and program offerings. This position supports academic Deans, faculty and the Director of Assessment in the design and facilitation of course and program level assessment. The position also provides direct support to the Vice President of Academic Affairs in efforts pertaining to accreditation. Assistant Vice President for Curriculum and Instruction works with academic leadership and the registrar on efficiencies in academic scheduling, to support student completion and academic success. The position serves as part of the Vice President of Academic Affairs leadership team and will represent the Vice President of on relevant committees and meetings. The Assistant Vice President for Curriculum and Instruction provides direction and leadership in the creation of extensive and meaningful faculty and adjunct development. The Assistant Vice President for Curriculum and Instruction has direct supervision of the Director of E-Learning and the Director of the Library and Learning Commons. The position will have direct supervision an administrative assistant who serves in the Office of the Assistant Vice President in Academic Affairs. Functions may change or be assigned as Academic Affairs responds to realignment efforts.

  • Works with faculty to facilitate curriculum review and maintain a record of curricular changes.
  • Responsible for maintaining the academic catalog and the process for annual revision.
  • Assists with identifying and developing new course and program opportunities for transfer and career education.
  • Responsible for generating required curriculum documentation for submission to the Maryland Higher Education Commission, and for tracking this documentation.
  • Supports assessment efforts relating to related academic program performance and student retention, completion and success.
  • Assists academic deans and the registrar in building academic schedules that align to program maps and support student completion.
  • Works with the VPAA to review seat-fill data and scheduling, and to identify opportunities for scheduling efficiencies.
  • Works with the Director of E-Learning, the Director of Assessment and other BCCC stakeholders in the development and delivery of professional development pertaining to curriculum and instruction.
  • Assists the Director of Institutional Research with the facilitation of curriculum evaluation, including IDEA surveys.
  • Leads faculty in the maintenance and monitoring of course pre-requisites.
  • Academic point of contact for course substitution requests.
  • Oversees the maintenance and updating of curriculum changes in college's databases (e.g. Banner)
  • Supervision of the Director of the Library and Learning Commons, and the Director of E-Learning.
  • Represents the Vice President of Academic Affairs on committees and in meetings, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • 7+ years working with college curriculum at community college level
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
  • Strong familiarity with COMAR regulations
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience in program submission to the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC).
  • Experience managing teams of individuals collaborating on multi-component projects.
