Art: Assistant Teaching Professor in Communication Design to begin August 2022. An Assistant Teaching Professor will teach, advise, and provide service to the profession and the university. This faculty member is expected to teach introductory to advanced courses at the undergraduate level in the BFA in Communication Design. Service can include serving on committees, advising student groups, and assisting with initiatives such as recruiting. The successful candidate will serve as an academic adviser to roughly 20 undergraduate students, and work collaboratively and productively with colleagues.

The Department of Art at Miami University educates socially responsible leaders in the fields of art and design who explore and create significant ideas. These globally-engaged citizens help shape society, inspire future generations, and share the value of art and design as an essential part of life. Areas within the department are NASAD accredited and offer majors in Art Education, Art and Architecture History, Communication Design, and Studio Art (with concentrations in ceramics, metals, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture). Over 260 majors are currently enrolled in these degrees, and the Department features an approximate 15:1 student-to-teacher ratio in our studio courses/seminars.

Required: MFA or a closely related degree earned by the date of appointment. Applicants must also demonstrate evidence of successful communication/graphic design teaching experience in formal or informal learning environments and professional experience producing work in communication/graphic design, user experience design, service design, or branding.

Consideration may be given to candidates with experience and demonstrated skills in any of the following design areas: service design, branding and identity, user interface design, interactive design, user experience design, design research, experience design; evidence of strong skills in any of the following practices: co-creation, human-centered design, digital and physical prototyping, design career development and business practices, image-making, typography, print-based design and production, motion design, using software relevant for creating print and digital-based outcomes; evidence of curriculum development and/or successful teaching at the university level; evidence of professional communication and collaboration skills; evidence of prior work or promise of future social design endeavors in any of these areas: teaching, service, or research that contributes to advancing community-based design practices, designing for accessibility and inclusion, or work that brings forward the voices of historically underrepresented communities in a multicultural, global world.
