The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking a 100% Assistant Research Scientist (PRJ1) position in the laboratory of Dr. Markus Kuehn. The Assistant Research Scientist - Kuehn Lab performs basic and applied research in glaucoma cell biology, with considerable scope and complexity in which existing theory or methods may be limited or lacking. The Assistant Research Scientist participates in identification and selection of the problems to be studied, the approach to them, and the results obtained. Key duties include:
- Investigate mechanisms of trabecular meshwork dysfunction and regeneration in glaucoma.
- Perform a variety of laboratory techniques, including cell culture, immunohistochemistry and molecular evaluations of ocular tissue
- Review and analyze clinical notes, particularly those related to ophthalmic procedures and treatment.
- Prepare reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Assist P.I. in writing grant applications
- Participate in determining research priorities and planning programs of research
- Maintain safety records, ensure regulatory compliance in laboratory.
- Train students and support staff

Position Type: Specified Term. Initial appointment is for one year. Appointment may be extended based on performance and availability of funding.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Ph.D, MD, or MD/PhD in Cell Biology, Genetics, or another related biological science field.
- At least 1-3 years of post-doctoral experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications
- Extensive knowledge of cell culture techniques
- In-depth knowledge of stem cell biology, including both iPSC and MSC
- Significant experience with single cell sequencing
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with ocular biology
- Experience with 3D bioprinting
- Experience with mutational analysis
