The Department of Mathematics and Applied Sciences is seeking an Assistant Professor of Engineering. Candidates in the broadly-defined field of mechanical engineering will be considered. These include but are not limited to advanced manufacturing and materials, artificial intelligence, sustainable engineering, robotics and mechatronics, simulation and applied mechanics, thermal-fluid science, and nanotechnology. The selected candidate is also expected to direct student design projects and present a research agenda that leads to scholarly works, external funding, and student engagement.

Candidates with previous teaching and/or industrial experience are preferred. Responsibilities of the position include teaching 18 credits per academic year, establishing an ongoing program of research, mentoring students in research, academic advising, and engaging in service activities that support the department, college, and university.

Qualifications

Required

  • Ph.D. in the field of Engineering. ABDs will be considered with an expectation date prior to 5/1/2023.
  • Ability to teach a broad range of Engineering courses.
  • Ability to direct student design projects.
  • Ability to create and publish scholarly research and obtain external funding
  • Ability to effectively engage with a wide variety of UM-Flint student demographics, both inside and outside of the classroom
  • Commitment to excellence in student learning
  • Commitment to innovative methods of instruction, e.g., active learning, various modalities, etc...
  • Commitment to working and performing service activities in a collaborative department.
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
