Salary/Position Classification

  • $90,000+ dependent on experience, 9-month Contract, Tenure-track, Exempt

Purpose of Position

The Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professors to begin in the 2024 Fall semester.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teaching petroleum and energy engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, depending on qualifications.
  • Develop a high-quality, externally funded, and collaborative research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participation in recruiting and outreach activities.
  • Establishing strong collaborations with the energy industry, especially in North Dakota.
  • Advising and mentoring students.
  • Participating in department, college, university, and professional service activities
  • Other duties as needed by the department.
Required Competencies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
  • Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the department and the College of Engineering and Mines
  • Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery
  • Ability to engage industry partners and connect course content to the practice of engineering in the field
Minimum Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering, Energy Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science or other related engineering discipline
  • Five years of energy industry experience or academic experience focusing on energy-related research or teaching
  • Evidence of a strong record of published research or other contributions to the field.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of the energy industry in North Dakota
  • Evidence of a proven track record of successful collaboration with industry partners.
  • Evidence of a proven track record of obtaining funding for research.
