Temple University's Tyler School of Art and Architecture invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Landscape Architecture with a specialization in ecological restoration at the assistant professor rank to start in Fall 2022.

We invite applicants to join Tyler's distinguished arts and design faculty in the Architecture and Environmental Design Department. Located primarily on a vibrant urban campus in Philadelphia, PA, Temple University is a public, research university with over 38,000 students in 17 schools and colleges. Temple's 187-acre Ambler Campus is home to the Ambler Arboretum, 13 distinct gardens, the Ambler Field Station, Greenhouse Education and Research Complex, and numerous natural spaces. Tyler's Landscape Architecture and Horticulture Programs offer the Associate and Bachelor of Science degrees in Horticulture, the Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture degree (BSLA), and the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLArch) degree that emphasizes ecological restoration. The BSLA and MLArch are both professional, LAAB-accredited programs. Other Tyler degree offerings include Architecture, Facilities Management, Historic Preservation, Community Development, and City and Regional Planning as well as numerous programs in the arts, art history, art education, and graphic design. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will conduct and disseminate a body of scholarly research related to landscape architecture and/or ecological restoration that demonstrates intellectual leadership in the field. They will teach landscape architecture design studios at the graduate and, possibly, undergraduate levels (e.g., woodland, wetland, public lands, and capstone restoration design); required courses in ecological restoration (e.g., landscape restoration workshop, northeastern woodland ecosystems, plant identification, native plant communities, invasive species management and restoration monitoring, and design research methods); and will support graduate level research in areas of landscape architecture and ecological restoration. Additionally, the candidate will serve on program, department, and school committees and participate in other activities such as curriculum development.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a terminal degree in landscape architecture (Master of Landscape Architecture or international equivalent) or research-based Master of Science or PhD in Landscape Architecture and demonstrated a track record of excellence in landscape architectural and or ecological restoration research or a research-based landscape architectural practice. Areas of expertise may include ecological restoration, restoration ecology, biodiversity, resilience against the environmental consequences of climate change; landscape performance, green stormwater infrastructure; specifications and or technologies that reduce, sequester, or tend toward the elimination of carbon emissions, or additional topics related to more "sustainable" materials and methods of construction. Candidates should have a minimum of two years teaching experience. Landscape architectural licensure, professional or teaching experience with land management, construction documentation, and common computer software is desirable. A minimum of three years of experience in practice is preferred.
