Job Info

The Department of Biology at Lafayette College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2022. We seek applicants with expertise in the intersection of evolutionary biology with development, a field known as 'EvoDevo'. Area of specialization is flexible, but we will give special consideration to those who combine use of model systems with computational or mathematical models. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, experience teaching undergraduates, and plans for an active research program. Research experience beyond graduate work is expected. The department especially welcomes applications from candidates who will contribute to Lafayette's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The candidate will be expected to teach courses in Evolutionary Biology and Developmental Biology and be able to contribute to our introductory general biology course sequences in particular Quantitative Biology. Candidates will also be expected to teach a seminar course in their area of expertise (e.g., Evolutionary Genetics). The teaching load is 2/2 in the first year, and 3/2 thereafter. All faculty members are expected to involve undergraduates in research and to mentor them in independent scholarship. The Department of Biology (within the Division of Natural Sciences) expects all of its members to maintain active, productive, sustained programs of scholarship that result in publications with students as co-authors. We offer competitive start-up funds and space for research in a brand new and well-equipped biology building. More information about the department is available at http://biology.lafayette.edu.

Applications should be submitted to http://apply.interfolio.com/96599. Submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a statement of scholarly interests, and arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be sent to James Dearworth, Department Head of Biology, through the Interfolio site. In the cover letter, candidates should address how their teaching and research will support Lafayette's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as articulated in the College's diversity statement (http://www.lafayette.edu/about/diversity-statement). Review of applications will begin December 31 and continue until the position is filled.
