Art: Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Communication Design to begin August 2022. The Assistant Professor will teach, conduct research, advise, and provide service to the department, profession, and university.

The Department of Art at Miami University educates socially responsible leaders in the fields of art and design who explore and create significant ideas. These globally-engaged citizens help shape society, inspire future generations, and share the value of art and design as an essential part of life. Areas within the department are NASAD accredited and offer majors in Art Education, Art and Architecture History, Communication Design, and Studio Art (with concentrations in ceramics, metals, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture). Over 260 majors are currently enrolled in these degrees, and the Department features an approximate 15:1 student-to-teacher ratio in our studio courses/seminars. The College of Creative Arts at Miami University is dedicated to the work of anti-racism.

Required: MFA, MDes, Ph.D or equivalent in Graphic Design, Communication Design, or a closely related field by date of appointment; a demonstrated ability to teach concepts of communication/graphic design in formal and/or informal learning environments; a strong knowledge of the communication/graphic design field including software and production expertise or skills in branding, design research, human-centered design, service design, interaction or user experience design.

Consideration may be given to candidates with experience or specialty in one or more of the following: community-based design; critical race design; decolonizing design; equity-centered design; trauma-informed design; design justice; and/or developing inclusive and innovative practices and/or curricula to bring forward the voices of historically underrepresented communities in a multicultural, global world. Consideration may also be given to candidates who have previous university-level teaching experience, professional experience in the field, an active record of research and/or creative practice in design.
