We especially encourage women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, veterans and people with disabilities to apply.Description:The Assistant Director is a full-time administrator position in the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (OSLE) of the Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director fosters a strong sense of community and student development within Hofstra's diverse student populations, implementing educational workshops and peer to peer leadership programs. The Assistant Director will work in collaboration with the OSLE staff to support student leaders and student organizations within the Hofstra University campus community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
*Leads the Hofstra University Peer Alliance/Peer Mentor/Peer Educator student leadership experience in the areas of recruitment, training, and facilitation.
*Develops diversity and inclusion workshops, programs, and trainings for students and other campus constituencies in collaboration with Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion.
*Supports campus-wide student leadership programs and events including the Blue Leadership Program, Gold Leadership Academy, and Hofstra Student Leadership Awards.
*Serves as an Administrative Advisor to a diverse group of student organizations on campus.
*Creates innovative programs and traditions including culturally based programs, identity-based programs, end of semester stressbusters programs, and educational programs and workshops.
*Works in collaboration with all offices within the Division of Student Affairs, colleagues across the University, and members of the local community to establish student-centered programs that support the missions of Hofstra and Division of Student Affairs.
*Coordinates formal assessments for programs and events.
*Serves as an active member of the Administrative Conduct Hearing Board for the Office of Community Standards including all required training.
*Serves on university committees and divisional committees as assigned.
*Attends all applicable training sessions.
*Assists in all aspects of office operations, including contributions to strategic planning and assessment efforts.
*Helps develop new initiatives and campus-wide programs and traditions based on current research and best practices in the field.
*Supervises, trains, and hires OSLE undergraduate and graduate student staff.
*Assists with the evening and weekend Graduate Assistant staffing calendar.
*Performs other related duties as assigned.

This is an on-site position; work for this role is performed on campus.Qualifications:*Master's Degree in a related field (e.g., Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Education, Social Work, etc.).
*Two years of increasing responsibility and leadership in a related area (LGBTQ+, diversity education, student activities, leadership, programming, etc.).
*Knowledge of student development, intercultural, and leadership theories and ability to apply them appropriately, along with a commitment to continued professional development.
*Demonstrate capacity to communicate effectively and collaborate with campus partners.
*Model behavior of an active listener, facilitator, convener, mediator, and coach.
*Demonstrate an innovative mindset to forge new ideas and strategies for relating academic and student life into an integrated and comprehensive student experience.
*Display an openness to risk, change, and feedback.
*Demonstrate a high degree of self-confidence and the ability to face challenges calmly.
*Display interpersonal and problem-solving skills, organizational expertise, and possess the ability to think both critically and strategically.
*Willingness and ability to work some evenings and weekends.
*Demonstrate precise record keeping.
*Experience with database maintenance and reporting, office technology, and various social media venues.
*Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

Preferred Qualifications:
