Simply put, our mission is to prepare students for life and career, wherever those journeys take them.The Division of Student Life plays an integral role in the College's vision and values, and every member of the Division of Student Life supports the delivery of a transformative student experience.The Assistant Director of Student Counseling is a 12-month position responsible for individual counseling, group counseling and outreach programming on issues related to student development.Job Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide clinical services to students including: individual counseling, group counseling, crisis counseling, and family counseling as well as coordination of care and referrals as needed.
  • Supervise graduate counseling interns and graduate practicum students.
  • Provide support on behavioral health issues to faculty and staff as appropriate.
  • Rotate weekend and evening on-call services with all Counseling Center licensed clinical staff.
  • Develop, provide, and coordinate outreach programming and materials as needed.
  • Serve as a member of committees, advisory groups, and the student life staff, and collaborate on programs, community building and issues related to diversity as assigned or requested.
  • Represent student counseling and/or Rhodes College at on-campus events and off-campus meetings related to professional organizations.
  • Complies with all Rhodes College policies and guidelines.
  • Maintains all relevant ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice for a Licensed Psychologist, Professional Counseling, or Social Worker or other license (relevant to credentials) in the state of Tennessee.
  • Coordination of one or more of the following areas shared among other staff: crisis, outreach, and initiatives.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function to perform the duties of this position.
Job Requirements:
  • Master's Degree or Doctorate Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related field required
  • This position requires a current TN licensure as a Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Professional Counselor – Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP). Must be licensed to practice independently. Terms of employment are contingent on TN licensure being ratified by the TN Licensure Board within 90 days of employment at Rhodes College.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in counseling. Experience in a college/university setting or in late adolescent/young adult development preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required
  • Excellent communication skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information required
  • Demonstrated ability to work well on a team
