Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Graduate Career Services, the Assistant Director of Graduate Career Development applies industry-specific knowledge in performing career advising and placement duties with Isenberg School of Management graduate students and alumni. The Assistant Director takes on a strategic role in the ongoing career development of students. This position works to increase job placement success and overall student satisfaction with the goal of positively impacting future enrollments in the School's graduate programs.

Essential Functions

  • Provides in-person and remote career advising to a diverse population of students enrolled in Isenberg's masters-level graduate programs, preparing them to secure employment within competitive markets.
  • Provides training on topics such as resumes and cover letters, career exploration, industry research, networking and LinkedIn engagement, job and internship searches, interviewing, business correspondence and etiquette, and offer evaluation and negotiation.
  • Creates, maintains and disseminates digital materials and resources to support both in-person and remote student engagement.
  • Assists leadership in developing a strategic plan for engaging and supporting MBA students, both in-person and online.
  • Advises students on developing, refining, and implementing an appropriate and realistic job search strategy for different industry segments.
  • Develops and delivers effective advising programs and learning tools for focused career searches and deploys these programs in one-on-one and workshop settings.
  • Stays up-to-date on industry or hiring trends, as well as available opportunities that might interest students.
  • Engages with students via classes, workshops, and clubs.
  • Provides training to graduate and undergraduate staff and faculty on emerging technologies which enhance service delivery (ie Big Interview, Salesforce, Handshake and SSC Navigate). Creates training materials to support system learning.
  • Collaborates with program directors, faculty, and other staff to target industry segments and professional organizations in planning and delivering career-related activities or programming.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three (3) years of experience in career services or in a business discipline (e.g. accounting, operations, marketing, finance, human resources or general management).
  • Experienced and efficient problem solver; able to proactively address issues to facilitate timely resolution.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to independently prioritize work and handle multiple tasks. Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
  • Superior interpersonal communication skills; proven success with developing positive working relationships with students, representatives of business and government, faculty, alumni, and senior corporate executives, including evidence of a clear understanding of, and a commitment to cultural, social, economic, and ethnic diversity.
  • Proficient in the use of Google Suite & Apps; Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, & Teams; Salesforce CRM; Zoom Conferencing; Slack; LinkedIn; and other departmental social media.
  • Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

    • Previous experience in higher education services.
    • Experience working with masters-level student populations, both in-person and online.
    • Practical experience, or knowledge gained through education, of the industries in which graduate students are looking for employment, including but not limited to pharmacology, agriculture, mathematics, computer science, and engineering.
    • Technical proficiency in various career-related tools/technologies including Handshake, iConnect, Big Interview, Blackboard Learn, Moodle, and SPIRE.

    Physical Demands/Working Conditions

    • Typical office environment.

    Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:30-5:00.
  • Required to work occasional weekends and evening hours.
  • This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee's work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
