Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation is responsible for coordinating work on campus that includes supporting the mission of the department, Division of Student Affairs and Hofstra University.

The Assistant Director is directly responsible for supervision of staff and facilities including the Fitness Center and Game Room, oversight of intramural programming and event planning and assessment. The Assistant Director is expected to forge productive working partnerships with students, colleagues, and offices across the University to enhance the contributions of all department programs, exercise classes and Fitness Center/Game Room operations to encourage engagement and collaboration.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Assist the Associate Director and Director of Campus Recreation in providing strong leadership in the organization and administration of the department.
* Maintain the daily upkeep of all Fitness Center facility needs including monitoring first aid and equipment inventories, making recommendations for the acquisition of new equipment and supplies and overseeing all storage accommodations.
* Submit equipment repairs in accordance with established process.
* Assist with the management of departments database of facility usage with intramural, club sport and group exercise class participation and contribute to monthly key performance indicators reports.
* Work closely with other department including, Athletics, Summer Camps and Event Management regarding scheduling, supervision and facility guidelines.
* Schedule facility outside events and maintain communication regarding programming needs.
* Handle time sensitive matters that require concise problem solving and a high degree of confidentiality.
* Assist with student payroll and the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of student staff.
* Serve on division and University-wide committees.
* Support and attend Department of Student Affairs and University-wide events.
* Attend applicable training sessions and get involved in campus wide committees.
* Speak at University wellness sessions, Admissions events, orientations and student club meetings.
* Create and design all promotional and technical material using the media resources available campus wide.
* Manage risk and uncertainty with poise.
* Other responsibilities as assigned.

Hours: Weekday evenings and possibly one weekend day.

Qualifications:

Required:

* Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
* Minimum one-year experience in a related field.
* NIRSA professional.
* Current CPR/AED certifications.
* Facility management experience.
* Demonstrated supervisory experience with a participatory leadership style.
* Strong computer skills including Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, web content management system software and social media technologies.
* Passion for and experience in working with students, faculty and colleagues of diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to work under tight and challenging deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
* Basic knowledge of the issues, trends and concerns for students and institutions of higher education.
* Familiarity of all methods of student engagement, intramural programming (IMLeagues, official's training, leadership development, large-scale event management and implementation.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work ethically and effectively with a diverse population of students, university faculty/administrators and community members.
* Flexible and adaptive to change with the creative problem-solving skills to resolve situations in a professional manner.
* Demonstrated commitment to the holistic development of diverse student populations.
* Collaborative disposition with the ability to think critically, strategically and creatively.
* Ability to be a self-starter and work independently.
