Assistant Director, Career & Life Design

The Career & Life Design Center seeks a high energy, passionate professional, who takes initiative in problem solving and delivering extraordinary service to students, alumni, parents/families, and faculty/staff to fill the position of Assistant Director of Career & Life Design.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Career & Life Design, the Assistant Director will coach students and recent graduates who express interest in exploring, preparing for and pursuing careers in law, public policy, government, nonprofit, education and related fields. Developing community resources and educating students on industry-specific skill development, the Assistant Director will develop and implement a comprehensive pre-law strategy and lead the Policy, Law, Social Good Career Community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual and group career coaching sessions with students and alumni on topics including document reviews, major and career exploration, internship and job search, interviewing and negotiations, and graduate school preparation;
  • Lead advising and programming on the law school application process including personal statements, letters of recommendation, LSATs, etc.;
  • Apply familiarity with law career progression and advise students planning for gap years, fellowships and entry-level roles;
  • Lead Policy, Law, Social Good Career Community programming and outreach by partnering with student clubs, alumni, and employers to provide exposure to careers in law, state and federal government, government relations, lobbying, think tanks, policy fellowships, NGOs, nonprofit, and education;
  • Manage and support large departmental programs such as career panels, networking events, mentoring programs, career boot camps, or conference-style events;
  • Oversee one day a week of Career Studio drop-ins and supervise assigned student interns on projects;
  • Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments and campus partners;
  • Represent the Career & Life Design Center on college-wide projects and initiatives;
  • Research, develop, and update relevant career information materials, resources, and assessments and participate in Higher Education organizations to stay current on best practices and improvements;
  • Represent Trinity College to prospective students, families, organizations and educational institutions;
  • Ability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends, required; and
  • Support and attend Career & Life Design events as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of three years relevant professional work experience in pre-law advising OR Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of three years relevant professional work experience working in law, government or nonprofit work and an illustrated ability to coach and advise undergraduate students.
  • Experience working with diverse student and alumni populations including first generation students, international students, and adult learners.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced office setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with program management and event planning.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills required.
  • Experience administering career assessments (Focus2, Gallup Strengths).
  • Familiarity with career management platforms (Handshake).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Familiarity with Design Thinking and Life Design Methodology.
  • Experience with virtual career coaching delivery methods (Zoom, Teams).
