Job Summary:

The Nurse Midwife is responsible for safe and personalized care to patients in the Inpatient Unit of LDRP and Ambulatory setting.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Will perform the following duties in the Inpatient Unit of LDRP:

• Comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of peri-partum women.

• Performs History and Physical of women admitted to LDRP.

• Maintains Medical Records with progress notes.

• Performs postpartum assessment of mothers including discharge in a timely manner.

• Performs basic obstetric ultrasonography.

• Performs unassisted vaginal deliveries.

• First assists in C-section deliveries.

• Practices within scope of license with back up from OB/GYN and Family Med/OB MDs when appropriate.

• Maintains the standards and educational requirements specific to the position and licensure.

• Maintains confidentiality and always works with respect and integrity.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Will perform the following duties in the Ambulatory setting:

• Assess peripartum women in the ambulatory setting including history, physical develop assessment and plan which includes ordering and interpreting appropriate laboratory and imaging studies. Appropriate follow up to be determined. This includes timely record keeping in the EMR.

o At least 2 sessions per week of 4 hours with 8-10 patients.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required for the Position

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

• Skills and knowledge base for clinical decision making.

• Knowledge of written policies and procedures.

• Ability to exhibit a high degree of professional excellence characterized by sound independent judgment, initiative, and a high standard of ethics.

• Ability to tactfully communicate with both internal and external customers.

• Ability to make rational decisions quickly and independently.

• Skilled in Electronic Medical Record systems.

• Master's degree in nursing required.

• Current Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts required.

• Graduation from an educational program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery and Education (ACME) required.

• Successful completion of the certifying exam given by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) required.

• BLS certification required.

• 3 years' experience as a Nurse Midwife preferred.

Special Requirements

• Must be available to work in the case of a Hospital declared emergency.
