Summary Statement

Cleans public areas throughout the Airport Terminal and parking garage. Maintains awareness of airport security issues and responds as required. Works around the general public and assists passengers by answering questions or providing information. Performs snow removal as needed. Works independently with minimal direct supervision

Essential Functions

Cleans and stocks restrooms. Vacuums waiting areas, walkways and other carpeted areas. Cleans carpets by extraction and carpet spotting. Picks up trash and empties trash receptacles. Wipes tables and chairs. Vacuums stairwells, escalator grids, and elevator tracks. Spot cleans windows, stainless columns and trim. Mops and sweeps hard surface floors and performs scrub and wax recoating. Cleans up spills. Cleans tenant lease space. Interacts with the public and provides information or directs to appropriate personnel. Reports and follows up on safety issues identified during shift inspections. (70%)

Shovels snow. Keeps hard surface floors dry during wet conditions to avoid safety concerns for passengers and tenants. (20%)

Maintains awareness of airport security. Watches for and responds to unattended baggage/package items, security door alarms, possible security breaches, odd or suspicious behavior from passengers, dangerous or prohibited items found in trash, restrooms, and waiting areas. Assists Operations. Responds to emergency situations as called upon by Leads or Operations. (10%)

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Requires education and/or experience to attain the following:

Six months experience working in the custodial field

Working knowledge of common custodial practices and cleaning products and supplies.

Ability to work on ladders and scaffolds up to 20 feet high; empty trash cans weighing up to 50 lbs.; work with cleaning chemicals and mix cleaning solutions; operate power tools and equipment such as floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, side by side buffers and lifts; safely use cleaning products and equipment; read and interpret SDS information; identify safety and security hazards; accomplish work independently; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City of Boise employees and the public; communicate effectively in the English Language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
One year of work experience in the custodial field; previous experience with automatic floor scrubbers, carpet extraction, and hard surface floor applications. OSHA certified.

Licensing And Other Requirements
Must be able to complete within six month:
FEMA Certifications for 100 & 700 Courses

Special Requirements
All applicants must be able to successfully pass City of Boise background check processes which include reference checks and criminal history checks.

Applicants must be able to pass, or have:

Transportation Security Administration background check (SIDA)

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 20 lbs, occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. Also the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs, occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. The noise level is occasionally loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, touch and feel. Work in this position also includes close vision and distance vision. Employees will stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, with areas of dust, odors, mist, gases or other airborne matter. Employees work in/at heights and are exposed to mechanical hazards. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Works around the general public and traffic, snow and ice during winter months. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids, and chemicals.
This position works: morning, swing, and/or graveyard shifts.
