Reporting directly to Senior Director Engineering & Maintenance; the Advance Automation Manager, Implements Engineering policies and guidelines, manages and coordinates all Engineering activities in the Engineering unit assigned. This position is responsible for leading the Process Control Engineering Team, people management, development & continuous improvement of all process automations, Process Controls software, implementation, testing & validations, maintenance in meeting Mishawaka POC SCM's Mandate for the Urinalysis + Novus, DCA and VTLi products, as well as assisting in all areas of the maintenance of hardware equipment and automations & transformation to achieve the highest level of Operational Excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Plans and manages material resources, processes and automation projects in the Engineering team(s) . In this capacity, this position is responsible for providing 24/7 engineering support using a team of process controls engineers, collaborate with maintenance team / machinists and electricians for manufacturing of consumable medical devices in a highly automated and regulated medical device manufacturing environment while managing multiple projects that cover existing manufacturing lines upgrades, new manufacturing lines design, continuous improvement, interactions with suppliers and cross-functional collaborations within Engineering & Maintenance Team, Operations, Quality, Tech Ops, Material Management, R&D department and other POC SCM Sites.

• Responsible for designated number of Process Controls Engineering Team and select Machinists.

• Provide full support for the automated manufacturing lines projects including, but not limited to the administration of the SCADA systems, PLCs, Level 1 and 2 manufacturing equipment and instrumentation, industrial labeling (SATO, Zebra, Intermec) and associated peripheral systems.

• Plans resources and budgets for process controls & automations to sustain, support or upgrade the manufacturing lines.

• Drives the development of technical standards and procedures for process controls team.

• Identify opportunities for process improvements.

• Provide training to control engineers, maintenance engineers in the setup, use and maintenance of the manufacturing assembly system in support of design changes.

• Develop business relationships and specifications with controls hardware &/or software suppliers to meet automation project requirements.

• Ability to provide full technical support and coordinate resources to maintenance engineers, production lines and cross functional teams in 24/7 manufacturing operations.

• Employ new technologies for troubleshooting and improve current automation infrastructure and process controls, using root cause analysis and data driven decision-making approach.

• Reviews/Approves documents for validation projects, process and material change orders, software upgrades and updates in Process Controls & automations.

• Participates in audit support and functions as a process owner during audits.

• Collaborates with other teams in support of new product launches through process design, development, and transfer of new products to production.

• Compliance with ISO, FDA, and all applicable medical device regulations related to medical device manufacturing.

• Continuous improvement programs across the supply chain, root cause analysis and troubleshooting as it relates to all process controls functions and software developments.

• Oversee effective implementation of process controls procedures, allocation of workload, monitor and execute all development projects within the allocated resources & budget.

Job Demands

• Experience in automation & process control systems for main market brands (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Beckoff, Cognex, FUNAC).
• Demonstrated proficiency in automations & process controls system shall not be limited to PLC programming but also HMI development, SCADA systems, Vision Systems, motion controls and robotics systems (4 and 5 axis).
• Demonstrated proficiency with industrial communication protocols (PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, serial protocols) for designing, commissioning and troubleshooting in highly dense industrial network environments.

• Adept knowledge in IT environments and strong computer skills.
• Responsible to design, upgrade, monitor and maintain critical IT assets (Servers, virtual machines, network devices, HMIs, computers).
• Coding skills (e.g. object-oriented programing, SQL, etc); required to understand and document technical requirements for existing process controls, automation infrastructure, and future upgrades, updates, modifications of the same.
• Strong communication skills both written and oral necessary to provide training to other process controls engineers, maintenance engineers, skilled trades, production, and engineering staff in the setup, use and maintenance of manufacturing assembly systems.
• Self-starter and can work independently on projects as required.
• Successful demonstration of delivering results, technical expertise, problem solving, training, recruiting, influencing, initiative and quality decision-making.

Skills & Qualifications (Education and Experience)

• Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering/Technical related discipline from an accredited university required.
• Minimum of 5 years work experience in an industrial environment, medical devices preferred.
• Work experience in an ISO regulated industrial environment preferred.
