Adjunct Instructor/Lecturer - School of Integrative Biology

The School of Integrative Biology seeks to hire a course instructor for IB 463 Ichthyology for Fall 2024. Candidates will be considered at the instructor (Masters) or lecturer (Ph.D.) level. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to student-centered, inclusive teaching. The School is home to more than 30 faculty members housed in three departments (Entomology; Evolution, Ecology, and Behavior; Plant Biology), more than 120 graduate students, and more than 300 declared undergraduate majors. In addition to the declared majors, we support the 1st year Biology students in partnership with the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology and provide service courses to students from majors throughout the university.
Duties & Responsibilities:

IB 463 covers the classification, anatomy, ecology, behavior, distribution, and evolution of fishes of the world. Emphasis is on morphological, ecological, and behavioral diversification of fishes in a phylogenetic context. This course includes a laboratory section devoted to anatomy and identification, with field trips to local natural areas. The course typically enrolls 24 students earning 4 hours of advanced undergraduate or graduate credit.

Required Qualifications:

• For Instructor title: Master's Degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field.
• For Lecturer title: PhD degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Introductory knowledge of Biology, Genetics, Physiology, Evolution, and Ecology
• Expertise with Illinois fishes and previous experience teaching Ichthyology
• At least one year's experience teaching

Salary and Appointment Information:

The teaching appointment will be part-time for the duration of the Fall 2024 semester (August 16 - December 31). Compensation for teaching IB 463 will be $10,000. Sponsorship for Work authorization is not available for this position.
