Overview

The Acoustical Lab and Process Supervisor is an essential part of the proper functioning of the acoustical R&D team at QSC Audio. A successful candidate will take extreme ownership of all aspects of the acoustical R&D labs, including ensuring continued day-to-day lab operation, troubleshooting of technical issues, leading upgrades of the lab facilities, calibration of lab equipment, and much more. These efforts will be accomplished in collaboration with the candidate's direct report: the Acoustical Engineering Technician. In addition, a successful candidate will manage and organize QSC's internal acoustical process documents, including filling in procedural gaps, and growing this body of documentation as our processes continue to evolve. As a result, the administration of yearly ISO9001 quality audits will also fall under the responsibility of this individual.

Base Pay Range $108,000 - 142,000

The above reflects the pay range that QSC reasonably expects to pay for this role. This pay range also depends on various factors such as job duties and requirements, relevant experience and skills and geographic location. Responsibilities

  • Ensuring constant, uninterrupted operation of QSC's acoustical labs, and providing outstanding customer service to the acoustical engineers working on projects to ensure that lab facilities requirements are met.
  • Troubleshooting of technical software or hardware issues affecting lab operation as they arise.
  • Managing regular lab clean ups through collaboration with the acoustical technician.
  • Ensuring that all lab equipment is regularly calibrated, and that calibrations are properly documented. 40%
  • Ensuring that all engineering samples, equipment, etc. are properly logged and tracked in collaboration with the acoustical technician.
  • Spearheading initiatives to upgrade lab equipment to better support the acoustical engineers.
  • Strategic planning and roadmap for continuous Lab modernization
  • Ensuring that Acoustical Engineering team members are fully trained on all new equipment and processes 20%
  • Assuming ownership and regular updating of all acoustical process documents for quality purposes.
  • Drafting of new acoustical process documents as procedures evolve, and ensuring lab facilities have the appropriate infrastructure to support these new and existing procedures.
  • Taking responsibility for managing annual ISO9001 audits of the acoustical engineering facilities. 20%
  • Coordinating the setup of listening demos of new products for the marketing team. 10%
  • Assisting the broader team with the acoustical aspects of loudspeaker product development when/if time allows.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree is minimum requirement. B.S. degree in Acoustical Engineering, ME or EE is preferred.
  • 6+ years working in, or 3+ years managing, a laboratory, R&D or manufacturing environment.
  • Creating and tracking RFQ's for Capital Expenditure. Sourcing and procuring general lab supplies
  • Independently updating and maintaining Quality Process Documents, in collaboration with the Acoustic team
  • The successful candidate will supervise one direct report, the Acoustical Engineering Technician
  • As supervisor, you will be required to conduct annual performance reviews for the Technician and set smart goals for each upcoming year to develop their talent
  • Advanced knowledge of acoustical data acquisition software (Soundcheck, Audio Precision, Klippel, Smaart).
  • Advanced understanding of different types of acoustical measurements and how to perform them (ground plane, nearfield, free-field, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of electroacoustic theory.
  • Solid understanding of electronics, and moderate experience with electronic test equipment (digital multimeter, oscilloscope, etc.).
  • Basic-to-intermediate scripting knowledge (Matlab, Python, etc.), and experience with Labview a plus.
  • Good understanding of amplifiers/electronics; proficiency in soldering a plus.
  • Understanding of basic DSP and audio mixers/EQs. Q-SYS Lev 2 Qualified is a plus.
  • Self-motivated and self-supervising within the expectations of management.
  • Experience successfully navigating laboratory and process quality audits a major benefit.
  • Exceptional organizational skills required; experience using Confluence/JIRA to write/organize documentation and assign tasks a plus.
  • Experience with Agile PLM, as well as document repositories (GIT, Subversion, etc.) a plus.
  • Passion for the music/audio industry is highly desirable.
