Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accurate capture, processing, and recording of transactions, in accordance with established accounting procedures / principles. The Manager provides direction to a team of professionals who perform general accounting and transaction processing activities for Red Lion business entities. Key activities include management of accounts payable, invoicing, accounts receivable, remittances/cashbook, credit/collections, employee expense reimbursements, and account reconciliations as part of the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting process. Works closely with other leads within the Finance to coordinate workflow, provide assistance on accounting related matters, and help the overall functioning of the group.

  • Establishes and manages the process by which accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash transactions are conducted. Responsible for ensuring proper training and cross training of professionals within their team.
  • Develops and implements efficient use of resources and procedures. Also provides strategic direction and recommendations of solutions to business and financial problems as they arise. Responsible for the review and approval of transactions, journals, and reconciliations.
  • Ensures that accounting policies and procedures are adhered to, instances of increased risk / exposure are highlighted and brought to management's attention, and overall compliance with established accounting policies.
  • Interacts with other accounting team members to resolve financial and / or transactional discrepancies, reconcile accounts, analyze trends, and assist with any next step requirements.

  • Supervises the Credit and Collections Specialist who is responsible for customer master data maintenance, credit limit establishment and monitoring, collections activity, and credit memo / product return processing.
  • For areas assigned ensures applicable federal, state, and local tax and licensing compliance requirements (e.g. sales tax, use tax, business licenses and registrations) are being appropriately addressed through sound process design and execution.
  • Resource for own team, other members of the accounting group, and the business in general for areas of assignment. Ability to find answers by studying existing and new requirements (both accounting and legislative related) and then advising management on needed actions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Desirable but nonrequired: CPA and/or MBA
  • Progressive levels of experience, including leading others, within a manufacturing oriented company.
  • Exceptional proficiency in Excel and experience working in modern ERP system(s), experience with the IFS ERP system is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the management of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and credit / collections staff.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field of study.
  • Minimum of 7 years of transactional accounting and business related experience that includes supervision of others.
  • Proficiency in Excel and prior experience / exposure to modern ERP system(s).
  • Demonstrated strong self-initiative and self-motivation, curiosity and creativity in identifying and implementing solutions to complex issues, and a devotion to detail and follow-up as required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, analytical, and anticipatory skills to effectively interface with all levels of management and staff, customers and outside business contacts.
  • Ability to work and function independently in a team environment with a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with the English language, written and verbal.
