General Purpose:

Under the direction of the Insurance Sales Manager, this position is responsible for completing and submitting new business applications for the ASA agriculture sales department. Work collaboratively with Sales Agents to understand customer needs, recommend coverages, gather required information and prepare proposals for insurance. Manage renewal process on existing accounts, looking for opportunities to provide additional insurance products and/or services to the client.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Focus

  • Maintain retention goals set by management within assigned territory
  • Work directly with the insured on renewals and new business obtaining necessary information
  • Proactively add new lines of business with existing accounts

Collaborative Focus
  • Work with Sales Agents to ensure complete information is obtained from prospect on new business submissions
  • Communicate with Sales Agent, Placer and Customer, keeping all apprised of status while working on new and/or renewal business
  • Keep current on any client concerns; act as an escalation point from Account Managers

General
  • Regularly meet with carriers to understand available coverages, including limits and exclusions, pricing and underwriting concerns
  • Stay informed on insurance industry and market trends
  • Maintain knowledge of all relevant legislative and regulatory mandates and ensure that all activities are in compliance with these requirements
  • Maintain high regard for member privacy in accordance with the corporate privacy policies and procedures
  • Follow corporate procedures and, through use of corporate-defined technology, maintain weekly and monthly reports for use by management
  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Cooperative mission and values

Education and Experience
  • BS or BA in Business Administration, Finance, Agricultural Studies, Ag Econ, Ag Studies or similar field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 5 years service in Property and Casualty commercial insurance
  • An agricultural background is helpful
  • License and/or certification - Must possess or obtain property and casualty license within 90 days of hire; must possess valid driver's license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Sophisticated risk evaluation and pricing skills. Comfortable with loss modeling independently and with actuarial support. Knowledge of captive contracts including reinsurance agreements. Understanding of captive accounting. Ability to effectively interact and negotiate directly with producers, large insureds, and program vendors
  • Strong operational leadership is essential, with solid analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to establish effective relationships and independently manage those relations with all levels of internal staff and external customers, business partners and vendors
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills required for a diverse range of internal and external audiences.
