Towson University is accepting applications for an Academic Program Manager (APM) to work at its Northeastern Maryland (TUNE) facility. The APM at TUNE would have multiple areas of responsibility. In addition to recruitment, the APM would assist with admissions as well as academic advising for recruits and matriculated students. The position requires an ability to sell TUNE to prospective students, a thorough understanding of the transfer admissions process and the ability to advise both potential and matriculated students. The APM would serve as a resource for the academic departments at TUNE and requires regular planning work with TUNE's University and transfer institution partners. The APM also manages TUNE Open House/Information Session and Tour events along with the TUNE website and social media platforms. The APM works with individual and small groups of students, faculty and staff, as well as the general public.

Towson University in Northeastern Maryland (TUNE) is located on the grounds of Harford Community College in Bel Air, MD.

Responsibilities and Duties

Serve as the TUNE liaison to University Marketing to ensure consistency in messaging and avoid duplication of efforts; working closely to develop tools and strategies to increase enrollments. Help program coordinators create and revise program documents, matrices, and databases to accurately reflect the TU program at TUNE and coordinate the dissemination of program information to recruits. Manage TUNE Open House and Tour events. Recruit, hire, and supervise Student Ambassadors to aid in the recruitment efforts. Work closely with partner community college admissions and advising staffs; disseminating and updating information related to articulation agreements and recruitment opportunities. Market programs in the general community, community colleges, and schools/systems. Visit, both in person and virtually, High Schools and classes at community college feeder schools. Participate in high school college fairs, community college transfer fairs, and specific events related to transfer enrollment. Purchase and maintain a supply of marketing "giveaways" for recruitment and awareness purposes. Attend other events as opportunity and/or need arises.

Acquire an understanding of University Core and TUNE program requirements. Assist potential students with the application process to TUNE; work with University Admissions to assure websites are accurate and updated. Review transfer student college transcripts to determine the transferability of courses and advise students on the pathways to a degree; work with University Admissions to confirm eligibility and admission. Conduct information sessions to student groups visiting the TUNE facility. Assist TUNE staff with new student Orientations. Assist program coordinators with cohort development by granting enrollment permissions and monitoring overrides and course capacities. Conduct appointments with prospective transfer students and respond to transfer related questions in person, via telephone, virtually, email, and written correspondence; provide admissions criteria, transfer credit summaries and recommendations for completion of additional courses at their sending Institutions; and maintain paperwork associated with each visitation.

Serve as general academic advisor for all students at TUNE, and act as resource for the academic departments at TUNE. Provide, with assistance from TUNE staff, logistical and other student application process and contact information support (e.g. correct forms, internet links, etc.). Act, in cooperation with TUNE staff, as liaison between students and main campus departments. Provide academic advising to students and support to academic departments during the Transfer Student Orientation Programs in July/August and January. Communicate with Registrar's Office to ensure that incoming student accounts are cleared for registration. Assist with registration of transfer students for their first semester of coursework at TUNE. Assist program coordinators with appropriate and timely academic advising to ensure program completion and time to degree. Provide appropriate and effective academic advising to TUNE students who are changing majors.

Manage TUNE Student Group in PeopleSoft. Monitor enrollment capacities in TUNE courses to ensure that adequate seats are reserved for incoming and continuing TUNE students. Create TUNE events in Salesforce; such as tours, open houses, and orientations and manage registrations and communications for these events. Work with Admissions to ensure that communications through Salesforce are up to date. Manage TUNE website and social media platforms. Handle program paperwork such as creating and maintaining program sheets, course sequences and databases for programs. Supply pertinent student data upon request for tracking purposes and reporting. This position requires some evening and weekend hours, including some regional travel. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of related work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A self-starter who can work well on their own.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Team player with a strong work ethic.
  • Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access.
  • Preferred:
  • Prior experience in college or university Admissions and/or Academic/Program Advising.
  • Knowledge of application of social media in higher education.
  • Experience using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr), student information systems (e.g. PeopleSoft, Banner, ImageNow), platforms for tracking event RSVPs (e.g. Salesforce, Eventbrite, Google Forms), and tools for creating event flyers (e.g. Publisher, Canva).
